What you'll be doing

  • You will be leading Engineers in building a new banking system on modern technologies in agile environment.

  • You are the technical leader for a couple of cross-functional engineering teams having clear ownership over engineering practices, product solution/architecture, development infrastructure, quality and technical debt of the products.

  • You design your teams, fine-tune its operational processes and oversee the solution architecture.

  • You are the line manager for Software Engineers - you are trusted to support the Engineers in professional development and hence grow the engineering talent in Bigbank.

Why is this important to Bigbank?

We are building a fully-digital bank from scratch – this comes with significant costs and risks, both of which need to be controlled and you will be in charge. We also need to build an organisation fit to develop and use these new systems – this means that as we change the technology stack we will need different teams with different competencies. You need to up the skills of our Engineers, keep the motivation high and plan the phased migration to the future for your engineering teams.

How you'll spend your day

  • People management – in the aspects team design (team competencies, size, roles, processes, etc.) and general direction, but also personal development and career planning with Engineers. We have adopted Scrum so no need to coordinate work on the task level.

  • Managing partner relations, contracts, budget and coordinating work with your sourcing partners.

  • Organising teambuilding events and hackathons – your team wants to have fun together and come up with innovative ideas - you can make it happen for them.

  • Doing code reviews and giving feedback to the team or Engineers.

  • Developing the architectural plans for delivering the business epic and defining non-functional requirements for epics.

  • Leading solution brainstorming in epic splitting meetings and decide on the approach in case team is unable to come to a consensus.

  • Defining a technical vision for the products – what to improve, how and when.

  • Assuring teams' services solution design is aligned with platform architecture and NFRs.

  • Producing technical specifications and documenting software/database changes and releases

  • Measuring software development teams against maturity levels and enforcing new approaches or refactoring.

  • Assuring tech leadership initiatives are considered and planned.

  • Assuring high-quality, seamless releases of produced software and fast resolution to live incidents.

  • Researching and prototyping with software libraries, frameworks, engines and platform approaches – because the best leaders lead by example.

Things you’re already doing:

  • You have a good understanding of software development lifecycle (we’re agile).

  • You have an engineering background (you understand OOP, different design patterns, SQL and NoSQL databases, automated testing, continuous integration systems, virtualisation, networks and Linux servers).

  • You have embraced modern engineering practices (XP, DevOps, etc).

  • You can engage people in achieving the goals.

  • You are coaching and mentoring others.

  • You are goal-oriented and keep your promises.

Things we're working on

First, we transformed from old school offices-based banking to purely digital banking. Next, we dove into the digital journeys of our customers and figured out what they need for excellent experience. Now, we are building a new banking platform made up of microservices, renewing our entire technology stack.
